Analyzing the components of environmental governance in Isfahan metropolis

Abstract

Environmental issues in the Isfahan metropolis have become one of the main challenges of this city. This research was conducted with the aim of evaluating the state of environmental governance in the Isfahan metropolis. The present research is of a descriptive-analytical and applied type, which was conducted using a researcher-made questionnaire. The statistical population included experts in the field of urban planning and management in Isfahan, from whom 43 valid questionnaires were collected using the snowball sampling method. The reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.978. The research data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The findings show that the state of environmental governance in the indicators under study needs improvement. In the participation index, the level of public participation and the number of active environmental organizations are less than desirable. In the field of responsibility and accountability, the performance of institutions in resolving environmental problems has been assessed as weak. The efficiency and effectiveness of environmental measures in different areas are different and need to be improved. In the area of ​​law and transparency, compliance with laws and information to citizens is not at a desirable level. Also, the distribution of environmental services at the city level is not fair. The results show that to improve environmental governance in Isfahan, a comprehensive and integrated approach is needed with an emphasis on strengthening public participation, increasing transparency and accountability, and paying attention to environmental justice.
